BIRD Aerosystems has received an order from an African Ministry of Defence to deliver its Airborne Missile Protection System (AMPS). The system, designed to safeguard helicopters such as the Mi-17 and Mi-24 against missile threats, including man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS), is scheduled for delivery in 2025.
The AMPS system includes the Self Protection Radar Electro-Optic System (SPREOS) DIRCM, a compact unit that integrates threat detection, confirmation, tracking, and jamming capabilities. The system is reported to have minimal false alarms and employs optimised jamming techniques for enhanced protection.
