The Czech aerospace major and RSW Aviation, a military training provider based in Phoenix, Arizona  that provides training for military forces worldwide, signed a Letter of Intent for delivery of 12 L-39NG Aircraft on the second day of the ongoing Farnborough International Airshow. The deal also includes the upgrade of 6 legacy L-39 into the L-39CW variant.

Aero will also deliver 10 L-39NG jet training aircraft to Skytech (Defense Sky Technologies Lda) as per the terms of  another agreement signed on the occasion. The contract includes the option for six additional aircraft. The two deals were officially announced by Giuseppe Giordo, President & CEO of Aero,  Mal Sandford,  Vice President of Skytech, and David Patrick, Chief Operating Officer of RSW Aviation.

The two deals are in addition to the contract that Aero signed with Senegal. The three deals would bring the backlog to 38 aircraft to be delivered between 2020 and 2022, said Giordo. The backlog is further set to rise to 58 with more deals on the anvil. The deals and the popularity of the aircraft offer proof that the right products, resources and the right approach produce great results, he added.

“L-39 NG is a natural choice for us,” said Patrick. “It is also a great leap in capability.”

The first L-39 NG aircraft is currently being assembled and the company expects it to roll out in the first week of October.  The first flight test will be in November.

The company is currently aiming to deliver six L-39NGs in 2020 before moving to 12 aircraft in 2021 and then start full scale production at the rate of 20 aircraft per year. “If we get more customers, we have a provision to increase the production rate,” he says.

Senegal is expected to get the delivery from fall 2020 and is expected to complete the deal by February 2021.
