Aerobatics galore (SINGAPORE AIRSHOW 2014 – DAY 1)

: Feb 12, 2014 - : 9:33 am

This year’s edition of the Singapore Air Show, held from 11-16 February, is the largest yet. The show has also attracted a remarkable array of aerobatic teams – no less than three. The show kicked off on day one with a display by the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) own Black Knights aerobatic team flying F-16 fighters. It is ironic that the Black Knights fly aircraft painted red and white, but this can be explained due to these being the national colours of Singapore’s flag!

Also performing on opening day were the famed Black Eagles of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) in their T-50B aircraft. The Jupiters of the Indonesian Air Force were also throwing their South Korean-built KT-1 trainers around the skies, despite the diplomatic spat between Singapore and Indonesia that saw the latter’s top military leaders avoid the air show.

Rounding off the action over the show venue was an F/A-18 Super Hornet from Australia, a Yak-130 trainer from Russia, an MV-22B Osprey of the US Marine Corps and a new Airbus A350-900 XWB.
