Air New Zealand is expected to announce which new wide-body jets it has chosen.
Reports say that Boeing representatives will be in Auckland next week, when the announcement will be made by Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon.
Air New Zealand has not clearly stated which plane it has chosen to replace its 777-200 but has indicated during the past few months it may opt for more 787 Dreamliners. There have been reports that the airline has been trying to decide between Airbus and Boeing for their long haul fleet renewal. With Airbus they’d be considering the A350 (either the -900 or -1000 variant), and with Boeing they’d be considering the 787 or 777X.
While nothing has been formally announced, Reuters quotes sources as saying that Air New Zealand is expected to announce a wide body order with Boeing shortly, as the aircraft manufacturer beat out rival Airbus.
