Aleksandar 155mm SPG to Make World Debut in 2019

: Dec 4, 2018 - : 8:19 pm

Serbia’s New Aleksandar 155mm MGS-25 Self Propelled Gun (SPG) will make its world debut at next year’s 9th International Defence Exhibition to be held in Belgrade.

The new artillery gun is undergoing developmental trials at present, company officials told Daily News at the ongoing EDEX 2018. The Serbian army is also expected to place orders for the new artillery system.

The company is also confident of the export success of the new weapon, with Egypt being considered as a potential customer in the future.  “Our current generation Nora artillery system has already received more than 100 orders and is in use in Africa, South East Asia and Europe,” the official says.

The Aleksandar features a 155 mm / 52 cal artillery gun mounted on a Kamaz 8X8 chassis, though a MAN chassis will also be offered. “Keeping in mind customer requirements and their vehicle fleets, we will be happy to integrate the weapon system on their choice of vehicle,” the official adds.

The 155mm barrel will be available in 2 versions, the first version is JBMOU compliant and comprises a 23 lt chamber, while the second option has a 25 lt chamber allowing projectiles to be fired out to longer distances. According to Yugoimport, the most important component of the weapon is the autoloader with 12 projectiles and propellant charges with the possibility to be loaded at all elevations and a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds/minute. The Aleksandar is also fitted with four hydraulic trails, allowing the artillery gun to be fired in both directions, affording a unique capability to the weapon. The crew of three are accommodated in an armoured cabin. The Alexandar weapon system is being promoted at EDEX by Yugoimport SDPR J.P.
