CNIM Pitches L-CAT for Special Ops

: Dec 3, 2018 - : 2:08 pm

French equipment manufacturer CNIM is offering its amphibious crafts for force projection to meet the special operational needs of naval forces, maritime players, systems manufacturers and shipyards in the region.

The L-CAT Shore to Shore is an innovative, fast catamaran landing craft developed by CNIM to meet the needs of the modern amphibious forces. It can conduct shore-to-shore missions or deploy from the well deck of LHD and LPD amphibious ships.

“There is lot of interest in our L -CAT Shore to Shore stand-alone force projection craft as many navies can’t afford a big ship,” a company official says.

Two of these amphibious connectors are now in service in the Egyptian Navy. The two L-CAT vessels were delivered in June and September 2016 to the Egyptian Navy, which accepted them without reservation. The first one is operated from the Gamal Abdel Nasser Mistral class amphibious ship since June 2016. The second one is operated from the Anouar el Sadate.

CNIM has been since then solicited by the Egyptian Navy to carry out the technical support of the maintenance in operational conditions of the L-CAT EG vessels. “Highly maneuver- able, the L-CAT provides exceptional operational flexibility for amphibious assaults and humanitarian operations, without compromising between speed and payload,” the official informs. The L-CAT is the only vessel to transport 80 tons at 25 knots, or up to sea state 6, to land in very shallow water (~1m) and to accommodate 42 passengers for long distance trips.
