Egypt Eyes IOMAX Archangel

: Dec 3, 2018 - : 2:19 pm

Egypt is currently pursuing a foreign military sale (FMS) led acquisition for 12 Archangel aircraft from IOMAX USA. Daily News understands from informed sources, that Egypt’s Letter of Request (LOR) has been accepted by the US Government, while the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) has been developed and is now in review.

The Archangel is operated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egyptian air force pilots have flown as observers in UAE Archangel aircraft, though they are yet to officially fly the type.

Egypt currently operates 12 older Border Patrol aircraft, which were received from the United Arab Emirates in 2017. IOMAX is providing support for the service, support, spares and training related activities for Egypt’s existing aircraft. The UAE acquired Archangel’s in 2015 and 24 aircraft were acquired. It is estimated that approximately 20 of the aircraft remain operational.

The UAE aircraft are configured to carry GBU 58s and GBU 12s, in addition to Roketsan laser guided Cirit rockets, in addition to other ordnance.

According to company officials, they see potential opportunities for the Archangel in North Africa, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region. A cumulative total of 60-75 aircraft is the current market potential for sales of the Archangel. “The Archangel offers attractive operating costs of less than US$1000 per hour and is cheaper to operate as compared to the A-29,” a company official told Daily News on the eve of the show.

An ISR/Strike pack- age using IOMAX aircraft can provide 24-hour coverage at a cost of less than $28,000 per day.

IOMAX which is based in Mooresville, North Carolina. has delivered an estimated 48 Border Patrol and Archangel aircraft over the last decade.

IOMAX aircraft have flown over 4,500 combat sorties, guiding over 3,000 Paveway II bombs, 200 70mm rockets, and 100 Hellfire missiles toward terrorist tar- gets throughout the Middle East and North Africa, while maintaining an operational readiness rate exceeding 90 per cent.
