Elbit Systems Upgrades LightSpear

Elbit systems has upgraded its LightSpear self-protection and jamming system for UAV to the new threats.

The upgrade is based according to sources on “operational experience” gained in recent years by the massive operation of different UAV’s by the Israeli Air Force (IAF).

The IAF is using the Hermes-450 and Hermes -900 for a long list of missions.

Elbit systems says that the Light Spear is a compact EW system based on multiple DRFM  (Digital Radio Frequency Memory) jamming channels, working in parallel and covering a wide spectrum.

The Israeli company says that the system enables easy integration with an array of transmitters and platforms, and its low Size, Weight and Power consumption makes it well suited for UAV’s  operating in  hostile environments.

Israeli sources say that there is evidence that electronic threats are directed towards UAV’s in a growing volume.
