Fight for Malaysia’s LCA Programme

: Mar 25, 2019 - : 12:49 pm

After almost shelving its Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) project, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is planning to buy single engine light combat aircraft. The country has reportedly issued requests for information (RFIs) to selected manufacturers for an undisclosed number of aircraft.

RFIs have been issued to the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) FA-50, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Tejas and Sino-Pakistani JF-17. Leonardo is also understood to have received the RFI and will offer the M-346FA (Fighter Attack), while the Russian Yak-130 combat trainer has also entered the fray. The Tejas and Yak-130 are both making their maiden LIMA appearances, while the others have chosen not bring their aircraft to the ongoing airshow.
