Israel aerospace industries (IAI) ceased its effort to convince the UK to evaluate its AEW systems.

In recent weeks, the British ministry of defence began exclusive talks with Boeing about the purchase of its E-7 AEW.

Since the mid of 2018, the Israeli company has been in low profile contacts with the British air force in an attempt to convince its high command, to evaluate the Israeli company’s AEW&C system carried by a Gulfstream G-550 business jet.

The proposal was to first evaluate the Italian air force AEW&C aircraft supplied by the ELTA, a division of IAI. The radar on these two aircraft is an upgraded version, even compared to the one carried by the Israeli air force AEW aircraft (Eitam). The radar carried by the Italian aircraft is an AESA gallium-nitride radar, with very high capabilities in a variety of scenarios.

According to an ELTA source, the company’s package is superior to any other similar system on the market “It is more capable of detecting targets and it has much lower life cycle cost”

The ELTA source added that in any aspect the company’s system is better “the conformal radar antennas and two special nose and aft antennas give our system a full 360 degrees coverage”

He revealed that the British air force was officially invited to evaluate the AEW&C aircraft that IAI supplied to the Italians.

“These aircraft were designed to operate in full interface with NATO systems”

The ELTA source added that the US airforce is replacing its EC-130H “Compass Call” electronic attack aircraft, With G-550 platforms. “They understood that a business aircraft platform is superior in any aspect”
