Leonardo Eyes Gulf Region for Falco EVO

: Feb 26, 2018 - : 8:46 pm

Following the delivery of the first Falco EVO Remotely-Piloted Air System (RPAS) to the launch customer in the Middle East in November last year, Leonardo has been promoting the advanced system all over the world.

A special emphasis was placed on the Falco EVO at UMEX 2018 in Abu Dhabi.

Leonardo officials speaking about the market for the Falco EVO told Asian Defence Technology, “This is the most important region for the RPAS, which is now a mature system for ISR operations.

The new Falco EVO features some important upgrades over the older Falco RPAS family.

There is now a diesel engine which has enhanced performance and significantly simplifies logistics during field deployments. The Falco EVO also has a SATCOM link, something that was not available previously.

A real-time data link range in excess of 200Km between the Ground Control Station and the in-flight FALCO EVO air vehicle is provided by the Ground Data Terminal.

A typical Falco EVO system configuration includes a Ground Control Station (GCS) connected to a Ground Data Terminal (GDT), a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and usually has three air vehicles with associated mission payload suites.

The Falco EVO mission payloads include: Electro-Optical (EO)/Infra-red (IR)/ Laser Range Finder (LRF)/Laser Designator (LD), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), passive and active Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment.
