Leonardo Showcases C-27J at AAD 2018

: Sep 20, 2018 - : 7:14 am

Leonardo is highlighting the C-27J as a versatile airlifter, best suited to aircraft conditions at Africa Aerospace & Defence exhibition underway in Pretoria, due to the types ability to undertake tactical and operational missions from non-prepared runways, at high altitudes and high temperatures

The C-27J has been already chosen by Marocco, Chad, Kenya and Zambia and is particularly suited to support international operations, civil defence, tactical transport and VIP transport.

“Air Forces need an aircraft with the features of the C-27J Spartan. We believe that our product is the best solution for African countries. The C-27J Spartan is the most effective multi-mission airlifter available on the market today. Its capability to operate from the most rudimentary airstrips, in extreme environmental conditions cannot be matched by any other twin-engine airlifter,” said Umberto Rossi, SVP Marketing and Sales at Leonardo Aircraft, who added, “Ordered and deployed with full satisfaction by the most important Air Forces, the Spartan has already fully demonstrated its ability to effectively accomplish any tactical transport mission, ranging from disaster relief to “last tactical mile” troops support.”

Leonardo will soon also offer a new C-27J baseline configuration with a brand new avionics and communication system, with the addition of winglets. Testing and qualification of the new configuration will be completed this year and the aircraft will be available on the market next year.

An added benefit of the new configuration is that it will comply with new civil aviation regulations and military requirements in addition to tackling obsolescence related issues.

The new configuration will be tested and qualified in 2018 and it will be available in 2019.

85 C-27Js have been ordered by the Air Forces of Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Lithuania,

Romania, Marocco, U.S.A., Mexico, Australia, Chad, Peru, Slovakia, Kenya and Zambia.
