Main components belonging to the radar that is part of the Israeli Iron Dome system, are incorporated in the joint proposal made by Lockheed Martin and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for a replacement of the current radar used by the Patriot Air Defense System.

On May 14 the US army has formally asked companies to offer their systems for the Patriot modernization program.

The modernization efforts began in 2017. The Lower Tier Air-and-Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) program is aimed to at replacing the Patriot’s phased array radar.

Lockheed Martin has joined with ELTA, the electronic subsidiary of Israel aerospace industries (IAI). The two companies offer a radar based on the one used by the Israeli Iron Dome system that has achieved almost 90 per cent intercepts of rockets launched into Israel from Gaza.

The joint proposal will be demonstrated soon in the US Army’s “Sense   Off “.

As a result of pressure applied by the US congress, the “Sense Off” is aimed at selecting a new Patriot radar “off the shelf” to be deployed within a very short time frame.

ELTA part in the joint proposal, is based on combat proven subsystems of its mobile S-Band Multi-Mission Radar (MMR) Family implementing an advanced 3D Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) supporting modular and scalable architecture.

The MMR family supports Artillery Weapon Location & Air Defense operational missions and provides optimal solutions for short, medium and long range missions.
The ELTA MMR radars feature high redundancy, graceful degradation, high reliability and very high availability.

One version of the ELTA MMR family is the one of the Iron Dome rocket interceptor system.

Raytheon and Northrop Grumman will also participate in the “Sense Off”
