: Apr 29, 2019 - : 8:56 pm

MBA, based in Argentina and representatives and distributors of Martin-Baker aircraft ejection seats, has developed an Emergency Oxygen System (EOS) that can be used in ejection seats of military aircraft.

The company, which distributes Martin-Baker ejection seats in South America, Central America and parts of Africa, will present its newly developed prod uct s a replacement for EOS systems originally on Martin-Baker seats. Maximo Pedro Bernasconi, MBA Director, told Asian Defence Technology that while the development of the oxygen system is primarily to meet the demands of the Latin American military market, the company hopes to offer the EOS for aircraft produced both nationally and internationally.

The company, which was among the eight companies from Argentina at the recently concluded Famex 2019 in Mexico, sell Martin-Baker ejection seats in South America, Central America and parts of Africa, said Bernasconi. “We are in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Ecuador, Mali, Angola and Mauritania. We hope to expand our presence in Africa and also to make a dent in the Mexican market.”

Apart from selling the ejection seats, the company also brings in seats from other countries for maintenance at its maintenance workshop in Río Cuarto, Province of Córdoba, within the Air Force Base, Argentina – Area Material Río IV. The company, which has its sales office in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, also sells a range of crashworthy seats for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, on behalf of Martin-Baker. Sale of spare parts, tools, maintenance, training, calibration of test benches and technical assistance are among the other capabilities of the company.

“Martin-Baker has 60 percent of the world’s market for ejection seats,” said Bernasconi. “The seats have saved more than 7600 lives so far. We have been Martin-Baker representatives for more than 15 years and are proud to have been part of the effort to save lives.”

The company also provides upgrades to seats in old aircraft, said Bernasconi. “We recently installed Mk 8 ejection seats in the Uruguayan Air Force A-37 Dragonfly aircraft. The seats were installed in six aircraft, with each aircraft having two seats. We hope to expand in this area as well.”
