A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been inked at the ongoing DSA 2018 between Naval Group, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) and EURECOM to develop cybersecurity in Malaysia.

The three partners will team up together to design a high-level programme focusing on digital security under the framework of the MoA.

The master programme will be delivered by UPNM at its campus by 2019 and will also involve human capital development at the masters, PhD, storiesdoctoral levels as well as short courses for serving academics.

“Naval Group is proud to contribute to the development of cybersecurity with its Malaysian partners and to facilitate technological exchanges between France and Malaysia,” says François Dupont, Naval Group’s Senior Vice-President, International Sales.

“Cybersecurity is a key research topic for Naval Group. R&D teams developed advanced systems for our ships in order to protect our clients around the world.”

Naval Group will support this initiative in the context of Submarine Refit offset programme currently underway in Malaysia for the RMN Scorpene Class submarines.

The project will enable students from UPNM to take part in the master courses taught in the French institute EURECOM in Sophia Antipolis. Furthermore, Malaysian professors will be able to be trained by EURECOM and may them teach this state-of-art technological knowledge in their home university.

“This programme not only contributes to capacity building of the university, but most importantly will contribute to the Nation’s development in the cybersecurity domain, especially in digital security,” says General Tan Sri Dato Seri Panglima Professor Hj Zulkifli bin haji Zainal Abidin Vice Chancellor of UPNM, who adds “We are indeed honored and delighted to work with EURECOM, a world renowned cybersecurity institution. At the same time, this program is only made possible through the support received from Naval Group, which has always been supportive of its growth. We thank the Ministry of Defence for making available offset funding for this purpose”.
