Japan is showcasing its high technology capabilities in the defence arena, by showcasing two aircraft types at the ongoing Paris Air Show. Making its maiden Le Bourget appearance is the C-2 heavy transport aircraft, which is manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.
The C-2 aircraft on display made stops in Cambodia and Abu Dhabi, before arriving at Le Bourget.
The Japanese Maritime Self Defence (JMSDF) has sent two P-1 (Patrol-1) maritime patrol aircraft as participants in the show, with the 2nd aircraft being made available as a spare.
Japanese officials told Daily News, that the intent behind bringing the two aircraft types to Le Bourget was to highlight Japanese military technology and also showcase the aircraft to the large number of visiting delegations at Le Bourget.
The Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF) has taken delivery of eight C-2s and there are two prototype aircraft, which are also flying. The long-term requirement is for Japan to acquire a total of 30 C-2s.
The P-1 aircraft being showcased is unique amongst maritime patrol aircraft at it features Fly-By-Light technology and Japanese officials tell Daily News that it is performing well in service.
