Australia dodoblehin ang Pondo para sa Civil Maritime Investment ng Pilipinas

Maglalaan ang Australian government ng A$18 milyon o humigit-kumulang ₱699.7 milyon para sa civil maritime investment ng Pilipinas simula sa susunod na taon.

Ayon kay Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown, mananatiling nakatuon ang investment sa equipment, capacity-building systems, at exchange at scholarship opportunities.

“Sa unang bahagi ng 2026, ilulunsad ng Embahada ang susunod na phase ng civil maritime investment ng Australia para sa Pilipinas, na may dobleng pondo na A$18 milyon,” sinabi ni Innes-Brown sa isang West Philippine Sea forum ng Stratbase nitong Lunes.

Ang bagong phase na ito ay tatakbo nang apat na taon.

Dagdag ni Innes-Brown, ang naunang A$9-milyong civil maritime security program ng Australia ay nakapagbigay ng law of the sea training sa halos 850 government officials at nagpondo ng mga postgraduate scholarship sa maritime policy at law.

Noong Abril, nagdonate ang Australia ng 20 state-of-the-art drones na nagkakahalaga ng US$592,000 upang palakasin ang kakayahan ng Pilipinas sa pagbabantay sa karagatan sa gitna ng umiigting na tensyon sa China.

Wala mang territorial dispute ang Australia laban sa China, pinalalawak nito ang presensiya ng kanilang naval at air assets sa Indo-Pacific bilang suporta sa freedom of navigation at seguridad sa rehiyon, habang tinatapatan ng mga bansa sa Kanluran ang lumalaking impluwensiya ng Beijing.
