In a significant move aimed at advancing India’s self-reliance in electronics and semiconductors, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Tata Electronics have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop indigenous solutions across the electronics and semiconductor value chain.

The MoU, signed on June 5 at Bombay House, Tata Group’s iconic headquarters in Mumbai, was formalised by BEL Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Manoj Jain and Tata Electronics CEO and Managing Director Dr. Randhir Thakur.

Under the agreement, the two companies will explore collaborative opportunities in Semiconductor Fabrication (Fab), Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT), and design services. The partnership will focus on catering to BEL’s current and future needs in advanced electronics, including Microcontrollers (MCUs), Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs), and other specialized processors.

“This collaboration is aligned with the Government of India’s push for self-reliance in critical technologies,” BEL said in a statement. “Through this MoU, BEL and Tata Electronics aim to create end-to-end solutions that meet domestic requirements while leveraging knowledge sharing and best practices to optimise manufacturing processes.”

The strategic partnership signals a concerted effort by two of India’s leading companies to strengthen the country’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem and reduce dependence on imports for high-end semiconductor components.
