A delegation from Brazilian aerospace firm Embraer has concluded a visit to India, aiming to explore the potential for expanding its supply chain within the country.
The company is considering possible Indian suppliers for its defence, commercial aviation, and executive jets sectors, focusing on areas such as aerostructures, machining, sheet metal, composites, forgings, wire harnesses, and hardware and software development.
“India has a robust aviation and defence industry, and we see strong viability for manufacturers and systems developers in India to be key suppliers to Embraer,” said Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice-President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer. “We are driven by a common vision, which is to drive the aviation capabilities of Brazil and India to greater heights, and to deliver value to our customers around the world.”
India is seen as a strategic market for Embraer, which already has over 44 aircraft in operation in the country, covering commercial aviation, executive jets, and defence. Notably, the Indian government and Air Force operate five Embraer VIP jets and three EMB 145 AEW “Netra” military aircraft.
A significant opportunity for Embraer in India is the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme. The company is proposing its C-390 Millennium transport aircraft, partnering with Indian firm Mahindra. The partnership, established in February 2024, positions the two companies to support the programme if the C-390 is selected, potentially involving an assembly line in India. This aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, with Embraer and Mahindra also planning a long-term support programme to further integrate local manufacturing.
