SeaFly-01 USV Evokes Keen Interest

: Nov 7, 2018 - : 3:02 pm

China’s high-speed unmanned sea vessel -SeaFly-01- that can be used for a number of applications including detecting submarines, has attracted significant interest in the last couple of years.

The Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) weighs 4.5 tonne and measures 10.25 m and is 3.7 m in length and beam respectively. A pair of 380 hp marine waterjets enable the vehicle to achieve a maximum stated speed of 45 kt when fully loaded, with a maximum operating endurance in excess of 400 km with a 700 litre fuel capacity.

“Several countries in the region are showing keen interest in the SeaFly-01, especially for maritime security tasks as it can help find water surface targets as well as underwater targets, thereby effectively improving the ability of maritime patrol and law enforcement,” says an official of Sifang, which manufactures the USV.

The SeaFly-01 has cutting-edge functions and capabilities including learning independently and avoiding obstacles, besides a stealth technology that cannot be traceable to radars.

Aside from submarine detection, the vessel also offers several other applications such as coastal patrol, armed confrontation, and water quality monitoring. It could also carry photoelectric scout device, light weapons, sonar and other equipment.

The SeaFly-01, which is made of carbon fiber material, is equipped with the satellite system independently developed by China, and 4D bionic vision, online path planning and bionic driverless technology.
