Singapore Airlines has an open mind about making an initial bid for a stake in Air India.
According to a Reuters report, David Lim, general manager for India said, “India is a strategic market for Singapore Airlines. We have an open mind.” However, Lim did not elaborate further.
Several companies have expressed an interest in buying some of Air India’s businesses, including low-cost Indian carrier IndiGo. According to another report a consortium of Jet Airways Ltd., Air France-KLM and Delta Airlines is also understood to have expressed interest in the disinvestment of the national carrier. However, there were no confirmations given by of the mentioned airlines.
While a group of ministers are still in the process of finalising the contours of Air India stake sale, the civil aviation ministry has so far said that officially it has received expression of interest from at least no-frills carrier IndiGo and an unidentified foreign airline.
Last month, India’s Minister of State for Civil Aviation said he had many discussions with many different players for Air India as well as various different entities that belong to the Air India group.
