While Boeing did not bring its jets to the event, it more than held its own against Airbus in the order tussle between the two aerospace giants. On Day 1, Korean Air ordered 20 Boeing 777X jets. It also purchased 30 787-10 aircraft, which includes 20 firm orders and ten options. On Day 2, Qatar Airways added 20 777-9s to its total order backlog of 40 777X aircraft. The order also came with commitments for 40 more General Electric (GE) Aerospace GE9X engines and spares,
Japan Airlines announced an order for 20 A350-900 and 11 A321neo aircraft at the event, a day after it signed an order for up to 20 more Boeing 787 Dreamliners. On the fourth day of the airshow, Saudi Arabia-based low-cost carrier flynas signed an MoU for 75 Airbus A320neo family aircraft and 15 A330-900s. Abra Group, a majority investor in avianca and GOL Linhas Aéreas, signed an MoU with Airbus for five Airbus A350s.
There was happy news for ATR as well with the company announcing at the Show that Japanese startup airline, JCAS Airways, and Singapore-based aircraft lessor Aviation PLC had signed a letter of intent (LoI) for an ATR 72-600 aircraft. Ait Tahiti also ordered four ATR 72-600 aircraft scheduled to be delivered between 2025 and 2028.
Both Airbus and Boeing highlighted their sustainability initiatives at the Show, with Airbus showcasing the single-aisle A321 XLR that burns 30 per cent less fuel and boasts a prospective range of 4,700 nautical miles (nm). The company’s A350 has a composite wing that is lighter than metallic structures. Boeing highlighted the features of the 777X, which has extra bag capacity.
In the advanced air mobility (AAM) section, Supernal displayed its full-scale electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle product concept, S-A2, and share its progress toward launching commercial flights in 2028. GKN Aerospace has successfully delivered the full composite wing assembly and will soon deliver booms for its first eVTOL demonstrator aircraft. The Full-scale Technology Demonstrator (FSTD) will begin flying later this year. Supernal also signed an agreement with Sigma Air Mobility – a Luxaviation Group company, to jointly develop targeted markets for future AAM infrastructure and investments, targeting key markets in South and Southeast Asia and potential opportunities in Southern Europe.
Boeing company Wisk, which is working on an autonomous aircraft with four passengers, brought its 6th generation aircraft to the show. Company chairman Brian Yutko said the company hopes to carry passengers later this decade. Embraer's Eve Air Mobility also provided updates of its eVTOL development while Spanish eVTOL company Crisalion Mobility secured pre-orders from Australian company Wilbur Air and Dubai-based Air Chateau.
