Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), a part of the Platforms & Systems cluster at EDGE, is showcasing its new FA-400 Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) at the ongoing IMDEX Asia.

ADSB’s FA-400 (OPV) was officially unveiled this February at the Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX), held in Abu Dhabi. As per the shipbuilder, it sets a new standard for performance and versatility in modern naval operations.

The 45-metre OPV features robust seakeeping characteristics and combines speed with modularity, enabling it to perform a wide range of missions, including territorial waters protection, search and rescue, counter-piracy, anti-smuggling, fisheries protection, and special forces support. The FA-400 is able to attain speeds of up to 30 knots and offers an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles at cruising speed. “This positions it as a force multiplier in offshore operations, from territorial law enforcement to surveillance and coastal patrol,” ADSB states.

With a modular architecture and flexible mission profile, the FA-400 accommodates a crew of 30, including three officers, 17 crew members, and 10 special forces personnel. Its modular design not only allows for seamless upgrades to payloads, sensors, and combat systems, but also the option to extend the vessel’s length to over 50 metres.

The FA-400 OPV also integrates a comprehensive suite of combat-ready command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) systems. The FA-400’s advanced navigation and sensor systems, paired with cutting-edge electronic warfare and decoy capabilities, provide the vessel with a tactical edge to excel in complex maritime scenarios.

The OPV also delivers formidable firepower with long-range anti-ship missiles, 12.7mm and 30mm remote weapon stations and has decoy launching systems.

Built for endurance, the FA-400 features a class-approved, marine-grade steel hull to withstand heavy service loads. Its superstructure is constructed from lightweight, welded marine-grade aluminium alloy, with a specially designed bimetal joint securely bonding both elements to ensure enhanced structural integrity and corrosion resistance for long-term durability.
