Air Canada Orders Eight Airbus A350-1000 Aircraft

Air Canada has announced a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, a move intended to modernise its long-haul fleet and facilitate global expansion. The order, which was previously recorded as undisclosed in November 2025, represents a significant commitment to the Airbus widebody family. These aircraft are expected to provide a competitive advantage through lower operating costs and an industry-leading range of up to 16,668 km (9,000 nm).

The airline intends to utilise the A350-1000's range to establish non-stop connectivity from its Canadian hubs to high-growth markets, specifically targeting Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Australia. The aircraft features the Airspace cabin design, which aims to improve passenger wellbeing during ultra-long-haul travel by maintaining the lowest cabin altitude and noise levels currently available in the industry.

The aircraft brings state-of-the-art capabilities and improved efficiencies to Air Canada, unlocking new long-haul opportunities around the globe,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada. “With the Maple Leaf adorning the tail, the Airbus A350-1000 will play a central role in defining Air Canada’s next era, connecting our customers, our hubs, and our country to the world.”

The A350-1000 incorporates advanced aerodynamics and lightweight materials, which, combined with latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines, result in a 25 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to previous-generation competitor aircraft. Furthermore, the A350 is currently capable of operating with up to 50 per cent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100 per cent SAF capability by 2030.

As of late January 2026, the Airbus A350 family has secured more than 1,500 orders from 67 customers globally.
