Air Europa has taken a significant step toward reshaping its long-haul operations after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for up to 40 A350-900 aircraft. The agreement, announced at the Dubai Airshow, lays the foundation for a phased replacement of the airline’s existing widebody fleet and positions the carrier for further expansion on routes to Latin America.

The planned introduction of the A350 marks one of Air Europa’s most substantial fleet decisions in recent years. The airline has been assessing long-term options for renewing its twin-aisle aircraft as it looks to improve operating efficiency and strengthen its position on high-demand transatlantic services.

Juan José Hidalgo, president of Air Europa, described the MoU as a turning point for the company’s future growth. “This order is a strategic milestone in Air Europa’s fleet development, accelerating its profitable growth by renewal of the current widebody fleet,” he said. “The A350-900 is a game-changer for key destinations in Latin America. It provides an exceptional cabin experience and the operational performance and economics needed to expand the airline's network without compromise, delivering the highest standards in air travel.”

The agreement adds a new European operator to the expanding list of A350 customers. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP for commercial aircraft sales, said the manufacturer expects the aircraft to play an important role in Air Europa’s future network. “We are proud to welcome Air Europa into the Airbus A350 family. This order is a strong endorsement of the A350 as the benchmark widebody platform for efficiency and passenger comfort in the long-haul market,” he said. “We are committed to supporting Air Europa’s ambitious growth strategy as they leverage the A350’s capabilities for their future long-haul operations.”

As of the end of October 2025, Airbus had booked more than 1,400 orders for the A350 family from 64 customers.
