AirAsia X (AAX) has announced a new route connecting Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, further expanding its network into Central Asia. The route, launching on 15 October 2025, will operate three times weekly. Travellers from Singapore can access this route via Kuala Lumpur using the airline’s Fly-Thru service, which offers 11 daily flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
The new service builds on the airline’s earlier expansion into Central Asia with the launch of flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan in early 2024. That route has shown steady demand, prompting AAX to increase flight frequencies. The addition of Tashkent is expected to support growing travel and trade between Southeast Asia and Central Asia, and offer more options for passengers from ASEAN countries and Australia to reach Uzbekistan through AirAsia’s broader network of over 130 destinations.
“The launch of our Kuala Lumpur-Tashkent route is a strategic milestone in AAX’s continued growth across Asia and beyond. Central Asia presents immense potential, with Uzbekistan’s economy growing steadily and a rising middle class eager to explore new destinations," said Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X. "We have seen a strong and growing demand for Central Asia following our successful Almaty route, and our vision is to create a comprehensive network that supports regional development and also connects people to these less-explored destinations whilst creating unforgettable travel experiences along the way. This year as of May, Almaty has quickly emerged as one of the top Fly-Thru destinations from Singapore, contributing to more than 10% of the overall load,” he added.
“The commencement of direct flights by AAX between these two major cities is a landmark development for Uzbekistan-Malaysia relations. With Uzbekistan’s tourism sector expanding rapidly and Malaysia’s strong position as a tourism and business hub in Southeast Asia, this route will significantly enhance connectivity, foster tourism exchanges, and open new avenues for investment. We are excited to welcome AAX to this promising market and look forward to a fruitful venture,” said Karomidin Gadoev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia.
To mark the launch, AAX is offering introductory promotional fares for passengers travelling from Singapore to Tashkent via Kuala Lumpur, starting from SGD391 one-way inclusive of taxes and fees. These fares are available for booking through the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com until 6 July 2025, for travel between 15 October 2025 and 14 September 2026.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s capital, is known for its blend of historical and modern architecture, vibrant markets and green public spaces. As the country’s largest city and economic centre, it continues to grow as a destination for both tourism and business.
