Airbus uses dentCHECK on the Flightline for 90% Efficiency Gains

: May 21, 2018 - : 9:33 pm

Airbus has begun reaping the benefits of 8tree’s dentCHECK at its Flightline operations in Hamburg, Germany.

Technicians who used dentCHECK when inspecting dents stories-rework on the difficult-to-access joint section 14/15 of a painted A320 aircraft, reported efficiency gains of more than 90% when using the tool, compared to traditional manual methods. The world’s only handheld portable and completely wireless 3D scanner to be published with multiple approvals in Airbus’ Tool Equipment Manuals, dentCHECK is already being used by various airlines and MROs.

“We are excited to see Airbus’ Flightline operations enthusiastically embracing dentCHECK for its speed, consistency of measurement and 1-button ease-of-use”, said Arun Chhabra, CEO, 8tree.  “We are pleased to welcome Airbus Hamburg to the rapidly growing, global aviation community that relies on dentCHECK for their damage-assessment needs.  It is very rewarding for us to witness dentCHECK – a purpose-built tool that is shaped by inputs from airlines/MROs – now delivering value further upstream, within the Flightline operations of an aircraft OEM.”

8tree demonstrated dentCHECK at the recently concluded AirExpo China 2018. The tool was created for the purpose of dent-mapping on metallic aero-structures and composite cabin floor-boards. Other OEMs are expected to issue guidance similar to Airbus in the coming weeks, enabling more airlines to implement the tool and boost their maintenance efficiency.

SR Technics is among the MROs that use dentCHECK in their operations. Separate studies by TAP-M&E and easyJet revealed that the use of dentCHECK reduces inspection and reporting times by more than 90% and 80%, respectively. This reduces aircraft Turn-around-Time (TaT), thus further reducing lost revenues and directly improving operational efficiency for airlines.
