The French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) has awarded Airbus Defence and Space, alongside co-contractor Neverhack, an eight-year framework contract to support the training of cybersecurity personnel across the Ministry of the Armed Forces, including military cyber specialists.
The contract includes the development, deployment, and upkeep of training platforms, as well as the delivery of instruction, coaching, and operational cyber defence scenarios. One key element will be a new cyber defence training centre at the Cyber Defence Academy, part of the Cyber Defence Command (COMCYBER) located near Rennes. This facility will provide tailored training for different categories of cyber personnel.
According to Airbus, the platforms will simulate cyber attack and defence scenarios relevant to military operations, including those conducted during large-scale exercises such as Orion and DefNet. The scenarios will range from malware attacks and denial-of-service attempts to data breaches, disinformation campaigns, and broader information manipulation tactics.
“The applications integrated into the platforms will make it possible to reproduce the environment of the armed forces’ networks and information systems in the broadest sense, including C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) and weapons systems,” Airbus stated.
Training modules are expected to combine IT infrastructure, simulated cyberattacks, physical phenomena, and user behaviour modelling, with the goal of creating realistic conditions for learning and operational readiness.
To ensure the platform evolves alongside new technologies and threats, Airbus may also collaborate with start-ups and SMEs, particularly in fields such as artificial intelligence.
Airbus Defence and Space has operated its CyberRange platforms for nearly a decade, providing training to various ministries and private sector clients in sensitive industries. Its CyberRange system is currently used in over 25 partner institutions offering cybersecurity education, and has supported national initiatives such as Passe ton Hack D’abord, a cybersecurity challenge event organised by COMCYBER and the Ministry of National Education.
The company also supports Security Operation Centres (SOCs) operated by the Ministry of the Armed Forces in mainland France, along with Tactical SOCs used during overseas operations to monitor and secure military communications and information systems.
