Airlines are on a journey to transform their businesses and become true travel retailers. Technology plays a fundamental role in empowering airlines to achieve this change.
Amadeus is committed to the technical evolution of its airline customers and the wider travel industry. Against this backdrop, Amadeus is actively working with its customers and industry players to further advance the required technology and industry standards that will ultimately result in greater efficiencies and capabilities for all.
One of the most recent milestones is Amadeus’ certification as a capable Order Management System by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
This industry standard will result in the gradual implementation of a single order record, in place of current multiple industry records, allowing more simplicity and agility as the industry moves towards retail-driven systems.
Amadeus sees ONE Order as a simplification initiative in line with Amadeus’ broader vision to transform the way travel is consumed. Combined with a unique traveler-centric approach, it will provide airlines with more flexible dynamic offers, a personalized experience, seamless shopping, delivery, and real-time financial flows.
Beyond the technology, this transformation also unveils opportunities to simplify and enhance airline business processes, organization and culture.
Fabrizio Calcabrini, Executive Vice President, Airlines Solutions, Amadeus says, “Amadeus’ ambition is to lead and support airlines as they simplify and grow their businesses to become true customer-centric travel retailers, while ensuring a seamless transition and day-to-day business continuity. Amadeus is driving this transformation, with ONE Order as part of this journey, and working towards alignment across the industry. We have always said that industry change will only happen if there is close collaboration between all travel players.”
In 2017, Amadeus partnered with British Airways to conduct the first proof of concept using ONE Order messages in a live production environment and shared feedback with IATA to contribute to the evolution of the standard.
Amadeus is now planning a second proof of concept in 2019. The ONE Order certification reinforces Amadeus’ commitment to its NDC-X program, created to drive the industrialization of the NDC standard for all travel players and to improve business capabilities for the airline industry. Navitaire, an Amadeus company, also achieved ONE Order certification as an Accounting Provider earlier this year.
