Amazon Adding 12 Boeing Aircraft to Fleet

: Jun 4, 2020 - : 4:37 am

Amazon said on Wednesday that it leased 12 Boeing 767-300 converted cargo aircraft from Air Transport Services Group, bringing its total fleet to more than 80, as it pushes for faster delivery amid a surge in online orders.

The company said these will add to its 70 aircraft fleet. Eleven of the 12 will be delivered next year. One of the new aircraft joined the company’s operations in May.

The fleet is expanding as people have been staying at home or working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic and been trying to socially distance from others. Amazon noted that customers are relying on goods being delivered during this time.

The company is opening new air hubs this year and next.

Amazon is building a delivery network to service its own business and potentially rival those of major carriers such as FedEx, United Parcel Service and Deutsche Post DHL.
