American Airlines to Spend $42M on Maintenance Station at IAH

: May 13, 2019 - : 9:26 pm

American Airlines has announced that it will spend $42 million to build a new line maintenance station at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The carrier has an average of 38 daily departures from the airport.

The maintenance station will be built in phases, with the first phase starting in May to secure temporary space at the airport and start recruiting aviation maintenance technicians.

During the second phase, which is expected to start in June, additional maintenance work such as service checks and engine washes will be added. The third and final phase will wrap up in the first quarter of 2020 and will include renovated break rooms, offices and toolbox storage spaces for technicians.

“There are additional opportunities for us to perform maintenance on our aircraft,” Kevin Brickner, senior vice president of technical operations, said in a news release, “ultimately enabling us to provide a stellar travel experience for our customers and team members this summer.”

The line maintenance station will employ about 46 aviation maintenance technicians and other support personnel. The employees will work on Boeing 737 and Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. The new positions are in addition to the more than 250 technicians that the carrier is currently hiring across its network.
