Aonic, a Malaysian drone service provider and manufacturer, has been awarded the Unmanned Aerial Work Certificate (UAWC) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). This certification, a requirement under the Civil Aviation Directive (CAD) 6011 Part II, enables commercial agricultural operations involving drones, such as spraying, while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
According to CAAM Chief Executive Officer Dato' Captain Norazman bin Mahmud, the certificate reflects the growing drone industry in Malaysia. He commented: "With over 190,000 drones registered in 2024, it is both an exciting and critical time for the drone industry. The issuance of the Unmanned Aerial Work Certificate (UAWC) demonstrates the balance we've achieved between fast-paced industry growth and regulatory compliance. CAAM will ensure that this rapidly developing sector remains sustainable and safe. This milestone is not just a proud achievement but a historic moment for advancing the safety and professionalism of drone operations in Malaysia."
Aonic's certification follows its adherence to the stringent requirements outlined in CAD 6011 Part II. This achievement positions the company as a reliable partner in the agricultural sector, particularly for plantations and farmers. The certification mandates strict adherence to aviation safety guidelines, which aim to minimise risks to people, property, and the environment during drone operations.
Cheong Jin Xi, CEO of Aonic, expressed the company’s commitment to safety and quality. "We are excited to receive the UAWC from CAAM. This achievement reflects our dedication to providing reliable drone services that prioritize safety and quality. We look forward to expanding our offerings and continuing to support plantations and farmers across Malaysia."
The company has conducted over 100,000 successful unmanned flight missions and provided advanced drone technology training to more than 4,680 individuals. Additionally, Aonic has facilitated over USD 3 million in financing for agricultural drone equipment, supporting smallholder farmers in improving their operations and livelihoods.
CAAM’s role in maintaining safety in Malaysian airspace includes implementing strict standards for drone operations, which are critical as the drone industry expands rapidly. The UAWC is seen as a key element in promoting professionalism and operational integrity within the sector.
Aonic, which provides drone-based solutions across industries such as public safety, agriculture, energy, and construction, views the certification as an opportunity to scale its operations effectively while maintaining high safety standards. The company aims to continue its contributions to advancing drone technology and its applications across various sectors.
