Aselsan which started working on active protection technologies sometime ago, now has a growing portfolio of these vital self-protection systems for land vehicles.
The importance of Main Battle Tanks (MBT) has increased on the modern battlefield and these require protection against Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) and Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM. Traditional passive armour available on MBTs is often ineffective against new weapons and are increasingly inadequate in protecting tanks.
Aselsan’s PULAT and AKKOR are some examples of the company’s APS offerings and these are on display at the ongoing IDEF. Aselsan has developed the AKKOR APS for use on Turkish Army ALTAY MBTs.
The first units of the AKKOR APS have already been delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces and installed on ALTAY MBTs prototypes, which are currently under field tests.
The AKKOR APS has now also reached a stage of maturity in its development to be able to be offered for different military platforms.
Aselsan completed the design, development and certification effort of the PULAT APS in a very short time span with a great effort.
The PULAT APS’s qualification effort saw it being tested against 100s of RPGs and ATGMs and it is today in operational use and has increased the survivability of Turkish MBTs.
Aselsan is now working to create more variants of its AKKOR & PULAT APS products.
