Turkish defence firm Aselsan is showcasing its Kuzgun and CATS airborne electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting pods at the ongoing IDEF show in Istanbul. The airborne sensors are particularly suited not only for high performance fixed-wing and rotary-wing airborne platforms but also for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
Aselsan informs that deliveries of both airborne sensors is underway with growing demand for both.
Aselsan has implemented high-end technologies and employed different sensors to deliver a single compact design, that fulfills all the requirements of pilotage/navigation, surveillance, search-and-rescue, automatic tracking, surface target classification and targeting.
The cost effective and light weight (22 kg) Kuzgun offers a compact sensor solution with 2-axis stabilization as well as electronic stabilization. It uses a thermal imaging sensor for day and night observation in addition to a daylight TV camera with continuous zoom and gyro stabilization, allowing it to achieve clean images of the target zone.
The Kuzgun EO pod also features a new generation and highly efficient diode pumped laser source which is capable of designating targets for guidance of semi-active laser guided munitions.
It can also measure and provide accurate range information up to 15 km with an eye-safe Laser Range Finder.
The CATS sensor uses a cutting-edge technology common aperture targeting system on a 4-axis stabilized gimbal with superior range and image performance.
The pod features an infrared (thermal) camera, day visual camera, low light near-infrared (LL-NIR) camera, laser range finder and designator unit, laser pointer and illuminator unit (LPI).
Additionally, it provides critical capabilities such as multi target tracking, simultaneous target tracking on IR, HDTV and LL-NIR videos, accurate target geo-location, determination of direction and speed of moving targets.
