ASELSAN’s MİDAS Redefines Intrusion Detection

Our Bureau - : Jan 22, 2026 - : 1:37 am

A single vibration along a fence. A faint tremor under the ground. Movements too subtle for the human eye, yet critical for situational awareness. In today’s complex security landscape, the ability to detect and interpret these hidden signals determines the strength of perimeter protection. ASELSAN has built a strong presence in this field with numerous field-proven solutions deployed across pipelines, borders, military areas, and critical facilities. As the company showcases a broad portfolio of its products at Qatar’s DIMDEX exhibition, its advanced border security solutions, including MİDAS, are among the highlights. MİDAS is an intrusion detection solution engineered to deliver clarity, precision, and reliable awareness across environments where visibility is limited, and it stands as one of ASELSAN’s proven systems in this field.

MİDAS: Transforming the Future of Perimeter Protection

Engineered to secure borders, critical facilities, pipelines, and railways, MİDAS integrates AI-driven analytics with fiber-optic sensing to elevate long-range detection performance. Its machine-learning algorithms, trained extensively on real-world data, enable rapid and accurate recognition of security-related events.

Traditional long-range detection systems often rely on active sensors requiring continuous power and intensive maintenance. MİDAS shifts this paradigm by using standard fiber-optic cables as passive sensors, delivering wide-area detection without any external power source. This approach dramatically reduces operational costs while increasing system resilience.

MİDAS listens to the acoustic vibrations traveling through fiber-optic lines and processes them through an AI-based detection engine. Thanks to this architecture, it can distinguish between human activity, vehicle movement, fence cutting attempts, and unauthorized digging, while also identifying rockfall incidents near railway tunnels. Its flexible design supports deployment underground, on fences, or integrated into existing infrastructure, allowing the system to be tailored to different operational needs. The adaptive AI engine keeps false alarms to a minimum and continuously improves detection accuracy by learning from new scenarios over time.

MİDAS family offers two established configurations: a 50 km long-range version and a 2×10 km short-range version designed for more localized applications. As of 2025, 2x50 km dual version has been added to the ASELSAN inventory. In addition, it enables the classification and detection of the conditions of subsea fiber optic cables and pipeline networks, and development activities for new capabilities are ongoing. Today, MİDAS provides uninterrupted monitoring for 3,000 km of oil and natural gas pipelines, border segments, military zones, and critical infrastructure. This coverage will soon expand to 5,000 km as deployments continue. ASELSAN is also developing MİDAS-based solutions for the protection of energy transmission lines, with nationwide rollout approaching.

In a security landscape where every meter matters and every signal carries meaning, MİDAS brings a new level of certainty to long-range monitoring. It equips operators with the confidence to manage vast territories, anticipate emerging risks, and maintain control in environments shaped by constant change.
