The Asia-Pacific aviation sector commenced the final quarter of 2025 on a strong footing, reporting healthy growth in international passenger demand and resilient air cargo performance for October. This robust activity, detailed in preliminary traffic figures, signals sustained confidence and expansion within the region, which has significant implications for the aerospace industry in terms of fleet maintenance, upgrades, and procurement. The steady growth is underpinned by rising tourism, increased business travel, and ongoing adjustments in global supply chains. The positive momentum also reflects a relatively stable global economic outlook, despite prevailing geopolitical and trade risks.
The preliminary October 2025 traffic results, released by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) on 27 November 2025, in Issue 2025: 22, highlight the region's increasing connectivity and market strength. For the month, Asia-Pacific carriers recorded a 10.2% year-on-year increase in the number of international passengers carried, reaching an aggregate of 33.5 million. This surge was primarily driven by strong expansion in routes connecting North East Asia. Demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPK), saw a rise of 10.7%, outpacing the 9.3% expansion in available seat capacity. Consequently, the average international passenger load factor improved by 1.0 percentage point, reaching 82.4% in October. The AAPA, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the original source for these figures.
The air cargo market also delivered a month of stability. International air cargo demand, measured in Freight Tonne Kilometres (FTK), saw a 2.2% year-on-year increase. This resilience is attributed to shifting supply chains and robust e-commerce volumes. However, offered freight capacity expanded at a faster rate, rising by 5.6% year-on-year, mainly due to increased belly-hold space on passenger flights. This led to a 2.0 percentage point decline in the average freight load factor to 59.7%. The aerospace industry monitors cargo volumes closely, as robust trade directly correlates with higher utilisation rates for both passenger and freighter aircraft, driving demand for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.
The Asia-Pacific region, home to some of the fastest-growing aviation markets, is a key strategic area for the global aerospace industry. The sustained air traffic growth in the region, particularly amid global economic headwinds and following the introduction of the United States' reciprocal tariffs announced in April, underscores the resilience of Asian economies and their commitment to supply chain diversification. This diversification, alongside a steady expansion in the services sector, has supported business confidence. Carriers in the region are operating in an increasingly competitive environment and are focusing on strengthening financial performance through efficiency improvements, which includes the strategic acquisition of fuel-efficient, next-generation aircraft—a major opportunity for aerospace manufacturers.
Commenting on the overall picture, Mr Subhas Menon, AAPA Director General, noted that Asia-Pacific airlines are on "stable ground". He highlighted that the total number of international passengers carried increased by 10.4% to 322 million for the year to October, while cargo demand rose by 5.4% over the same period, aided by pre-emptive inventory restocking ahead of major online sales events. Mr Menon concluded that broad-based growth in the global economy should continue to underpin expansion in the coming months, though he cautioned that the outlook remains moderated by geopolitical and trade risks. This continuous commitment to operational efficiency and fleet modernisation by Asia-Pacific carriers solidifies the region as a primary growth driver for the international aerospace sector.
