The landscape of the Asia Pacific aerospace sector is set for a significant transformation as AXISCADES Technologies Limited formalises a strategic partnership with OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal. This collaboration, announced on 27 January 2026, aims to dramatically scale maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, airframe engineering, and certification capabilities within India. By aligning with OGMA, a prominent subsidiary of Embraer, AXISCADES is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the high-value lifecycle support market for both commercial and military aviation platforms.
This alliance is specifically designed to address the burgeoning demand for sophisticated engineering services in the region. Under the terms of the agreement, the two entities will collaborate on providing comprehensive maintenance and operational support for Embraer’s various aircraft fleets in India. This includes critical platforms such as VVIP and VIP aircraft, as well as the advanced Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) systems utilised by the Indian Air Force. The partnership also extends its reach beyond the Indian subcontinent, identifying the UAE and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as primary target markets for joint business development.
The strategic move was widely reported on 27 January 2026 by major industry and financial outlets including The Financial Express, Business Standard, and The Economic Times. These reports highlight that the partnership effectively merges the deep-rooted engineering expertise of AXISCADES in avionics, radar, and drone technologies with OGMA’s century-long legacy in airframe and engine MRO. By leveraging OGMA’s established relationships with global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, and Airbus Defence, the collaboration is expected to bring world-class certification and maintenance standards to the domestic Indian market.
From an Asia Pacific perspective, this partnership serves as a vital cornerstone for India’s ambition to become a global MRO hub. Currently, a significant portion of Indian carriers' MRO spend is directed toward overseas facilities, particularly for complex engine and airframe overhauls. By internalising these capabilities through international partnerships, the region can reduce turnaround times and operational costs. AXISCADES is already in the process of establishing one of India’s largest integrated aerospace and defence manufacturing hubs near Bengaluru International Airport. This facility will feature dedicated hangars, speed shops, and a welding centre of excellence to support the technical inputs provided by OGMA.
The partnership is not limited to civil aviation; it places a heavy emphasis on the military and defence sectors. With India’s fleet of AEW&C platforms and military transport aircraft requiring constant readiness, the integration of OGMA’s certified maintenance protocols is a timely development. Alfonso Martinez, CEO-International of AXISCADES, noted that the memorandum of understanding represents a pivotal step in building world-class indigenous capabilities. By creating a robust ecosystem that supports self-reliance, the alliance is well-positioned to serve the projected growth of the Indian MRO market, which is anticipated to reach approximately US$4 billion (approx. ₹33,200 crore) by 2031.
For OGMA, the collaboration provides a strategic entry point into the high-growth Indian market and a platform to expand its footprint across the Middle East. Paulo Monginho, CEO of OGMA, emphasised that the joint venture allows for the delivery of high-quality, certified engineering solutions to a global customer base. As the global aerospace industry looks toward Asia for the next phase of growth, this synergy between Portuguese technical heritage and Indian engineering scale represents a formidable shift in the international aerospace supply chain.
