Azerbaijan has unveiled a locally developed assault rifle based on the M4 platform at the ADEX 2026 defense exhibition in Baku.
The rifle was developed using domestic manufacturing capabilities and technology transfer. It uses 5.56x45 mm ammunition and has an adjustable telescopic stock. The weapon was presented as compatible with NATO standards.
Azerbaijan also introduced the AZ 7.62 R assault rifle, a modernized infantry weapon with changes intended to improve handling and functionality. Details of those modifications were not provided.
ADEX and the concurrent Securex Caspian security exhibition have drawn about 280 companies and organizations from 30 countries. Organizers said 59 foreign delegations from 39 countries are attending, with 53 countries represented overall.
The Baku Expo Center opened a fifth pavilion to accommodate ADEX this year. A separate pavilion is dedicated to Azerbaijan’s national display, bringing together domestic defense manufacturers and related organizations.
Exhibitors include companies from the United States, China, Russia, Türkiye, Germany, the United Kingdom and other countries.
The exhibitions run through Oct. 2. ADEX focuses on military equipment and defense technology, while Securex Caspian features internal security, protection and rescue equipment.
