BAE Showcases Naval Firepower at DSA 2018

: Apr 15, 2018 - : 6:16 pm

BAE Systems is showcasing its Bofors 40Mk4 and 57Mk3 naval gun systems at DSA Malaysia 2018. Both weapons systems are proving popular in the export market with three countries already having ordered 40 Mk4 naval guns, Finland being the newest.

The highly flexible 40mm gun system allows warships to operate in different levels of conflict in today’s tactical scenarios. The 40 Mk4 naval Gun couples its compact size and light weight with a high rate of fire and can also fire programmable 40-mm 3P all-target ammunition, enhancing its effectiveness against all current air, sea, and ground targets. BAE Systems’ Bofors 40-mm guns are used by more than 10 countries.

The 57Mk3 uses a more powerful 57mm gun and has the capability to engage threats that would have been impossible to engage with using conventional gun systems, especially in littoral scenarios. 57Mk3 is the international name for the weapon system which is also known as the Mk110 naval gun system, 15 of which have already been ordered for the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) programme, the latest order being placed in April. There are 86 Mk110/57Mk3 naval gun systems under contract with eight nations, including countries in the region.
