BAE Systems is substantially enhancing its ability to support Royal Navy warship programmes and undertake research into future combat systems and technologies with a £10 million investment upgrade of its Maritime Integration & Support Centre (MISC) in Portsmouth, UK.
The MISC facility is shaped like a Type 45 destroyer and correctly duplicates real-life ship conditions using the same combat system technology on currently operational warships, including systems used to track threats, co-ordinate weapons and manage on-deck aircraft movements. Amongst the new facilities to be created at the MISC include, a state of the art visualisation suite that will be able to display live tactical data from any Royal Navy warship anywhere in the world.
The MISC will begin testing of the combat system equipment for the Royal Navy’s new City class Type 26 Global Combat Ships in July. The first ship in class, GLASGOW, is under construction at BAE Systems’ facilities on the Clyde. The facility will also remotely integrate the HMS Prince of Wales combat system throughout 2018.
