The Bali International Airshow 2024 is set to mark Indonesia's return to the global airshow scene after three decades, underscoring the country's expanding role in the aerospace and defence sectors. Scheduled for 18 to 21 September 2024 at Ngurah Rai International Airport, the event will host major international aerospace companies, including Airbus, Bell Helicopters, Boeing, Brahmos, Dassault Aviation, Embraer, Garuda Group, Leonardo (represented by Helitech Asia - Asia-Pac distributor), Lion Air, MBDA, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, Textron Aviation, and Thales.
This participation reflects Indonesia’s strategic ambition to enhance its position in the Asia-Pacific region and demonstrates its growing presence in the global aerospace industry. The airshow represents a significant milestone in Indonesia's efforts to become a regional hub for aerospace innovation and defence technology.
The airshow is expected to attract nearly 100 participating companies and 100 delegations from over 35 countries and regions, drawing defence officials, ministers, and industry leaders from Australia, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, The Philippines, Timor-Leste, Turkiye, The United States, and others.
“Through these collaborations, Indonesia is now ready to stand alongside notable players in the global arena, making an international event like the Bali Airshow essential. The aviation landscape in Indonesia is on an upward trajectory, with a projected annual growth rate of 5 percent in the aircraft fleet over the next five years and Indonesia is estimated to be the 4th largest aviation market in 2037. The Ministry is delighted to be in full support of the Bali Airshow 2024, which will further reinforce this growth and our position on the global stage,” stated Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs, Indonesia.
The Bali International Airshow 2024 will feature 16 static displays, showcasing a range of commercial and military aircraft, including the F-16 Fighting Falcon, Sukhoi SU-27, C-130J Super Hercules, CASA C-212, EC-275, and Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano. The event will also display two advanced aircraft: the F-35A Lightning II from the Royal Australian Air Force and the Airbus A400M from the German Air Force, reflecting strong international support for the airshow.
Pertamina, Indonesia’s leading energy company, is the title sponsor of the event, with a focus on promoting sustainable aviation practices.
“As an energy company in Indonesia, Pertamina is committed to supporting innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry. At the Bali International Airshow 2024, Pertamina will highlight the development and implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Pertamina believes that SAF is the key to growth of an environmentally friendly and sustainable aviation industry. In the future Pertamina is expected to strengthen collaboration with global partners and introduce the latest technology for the advancement of sustainable aviation in Indonesia and the world,” said Wiko Migantoro, Vice President Director of Pertamina.
Ahead of the Bali Airshow, two significant conferences will be held on 17 September 2024, where global leaders and experts will gather to discuss pressing issues in the aerospace industry. These forums will seek to strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties between Indonesia and other nations, encouraging greater cooperation and collaboration.
The Asia Pacific Air Transport Forum 2024, titled "Scaling Up Sustainable Aviation Fuels and Integrated Airspace Solutions for a Greener Future," will focus on the future of sustainable aviation. Discussions will centre on expanding the production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and integrating advanced air mobility technologies, such as drones and Urban Air Mobility systems, into traditional airspace.
During the Airshow, the Indonesian government will introduce its national roadmap for developing the SAF industry and ecosystem in Indonesia, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable aviation with a goal of achieving Net Zero Aviation by 2050.
Simultaneously, the Bali Regional Air and Space Power Forum 2024 will address "Security for All: The Future of Aerospace Technology and Its Role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Operations." This forum will explore the growing challenges posed by natural disasters in the Asia-Pacific region, with discussions on incorporating advanced aerospace technologies, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, satellites, and C4ISR systems, into HADR operations to enhance disaster response capabilities.
These conferences are designed to bring together key stakeholders from governments, civil aviation authorities, aircraft manufacturers, and other industry players to discuss strategies for advancing the SAF ecosystem and improving airspace integration.
As part of the airshow, the skies over Bali will be filled with performances by the Indonesian Air Force’s Jupiter Aerobatic Team (JAT), flying six KT-1B Woongbi aircraft. Known for their precision and striking formations, JAT will perform four times daily throughout the event.
