Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited and PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to cooperate on the use of domestically produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking the first such initiative in Thailand. The agreement supports both companies’ stated environmental objectives and reflects broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector.
The signing took place at Bangkok Airways’ headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and was attended by Dechit Chareonwong, Senior Executive Vice President of Operations at Bangkok Airways, and Chaipruet Watchareekhup, Aviation and Marine Marketing Manager at OR.
Bangkok Airways said the cooperation aligns with its existing carbon reduction programme and supports plans to integrate SAF into its operations. The airline referred to the initiative as part of its response to international industry targets, including the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
OR stated that the SAF to be used in this collaboration is produced by PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) using the Co-Processing method, which is being applied in Thai aviation for the first time. The company also referenced national policies targeting a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goal by 2065.
The agreement outlines an initial step toward the adoption of alternative fuels in Thailand’s aviation industry, reflecting the involvement of local producers and fuel distributors in early-stage implementation.
