Indian state owned defence firm, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), is moving forward with plans to develop a new generation of Indian missile systems.
At the ongoing air show, BEL entered into an MoU with an Indian start-up firm named JSR Dynamics Pvt Ltd (JSR), to leverage the individual design and manufacturing capabilities of BEL and JSR to develop weapons and light weight cruise missiles.
JSR which is located in the Indian city of Nagpur has been developing ground-based and air-based weapons, such as Glide Weapons, Light Weight Cruise Missiles and allied sub-assemblies and components.
The proposed missile systems are being displayed at Aero India and include; Long-range stand-off concept weapon ‘Khagantak’-225-LW, Long-range stand-off weapon concept ‘Waghnak’ and the light weight cruise missile concept ‘VEL’.
BEL also signed a Teaming Agreement with Hughes India at the air show for design, development, supply, installation, integration and commissioning of Satellite Communication (SATCOM) solutions for helicopters.
The Teaming Agreement will enable BEL to offer helicopter-based SATCOM links for real-time and assured communications using ISRO’s Ku band satellites.
