Bombardier Global 8000 Sets LA-Farnborough Speed Record

Bombardier's Global 8000 business jet set a new speed record on a nonstop flight from Los Angeles to the United Kingdom ahead of its first public flying display at the ongoing Farnborough International Airshow 2026.

Bombardier said the ultra-long-range business jet completed the 5,440-mile (8,755-kilometer) journey in 8 hours and 46 minutes, establishing a new city-pair record despite encountering unfavorable tailwinds during the flight.

The aircraft reached a top speed of Mach 0.93 during the transatlantic trip. Certified to operate at Mach 0.95, the Global 8000 is the fastest purpose-built civilian aircraft currently in production, although it remains below the speed of sound.

"This new speed record illustrates the truly special attributes of this incredible aircraft, the industry leader in terms of speed, agility and performance," said Stephen McCullough, Executive Vice President, Engineering, Product Development and Bombardier Defense.

"Speed is without a doubt the Global 8000's calling card, and this latest accomplishment aptly underscores what sets this aircraft apart – the ability to bring the world closer and closer than ever before. And when combined with the aircraft's signature smooth ride, luxurious cabin, low cabin altitude and unmatched landing capabilities – including the ability to reach up to 30% more airports than its nearest competitor – it's truly in a class of its own."

Powered by two GE Aerospace Passport engines, the Global 8000 has a range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 kilometers), allowing nonstop flights between many of the world's major business hubs. Bombardier says the aircraft can reach more than 2,000 city pairs that are beyond the capabilities of competing business jets.

The Global 8000 received certification from Transport Canada in late 2025, followed by approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in early 2026, paving the way for international deliveries. The aircraft can accommodate up to 19 passengers.
