Keen to partake in Egypt’s military modernisation programme, China is placing an increased emphasis on strong military relations with the country.
In keeping with growing defence ties between the two countries, Egyptian Military Chief of Staff Mohamed Farid Hegazy recently met with Chinese State Councillor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe in Beijing.
Mohamed Farid Hegazy expressed hopes that the two countries and two militaries can further enhance exchanges and communication in various fields and make even greater progress in boosting bilateral relations.
“China attaches great importance to its military ties with Egypt,” Wei said and spoke of China’s interest to development the momentum of the comprehensive strategic partner- ship between the two countries. Wei also expressed China’s willingness to enhance strategic communication between the two militaries and exchanges, joint exercises, joint training, personnel training and other areas.
China has been aggressively pursuing arms sales around the globe and is promoting military equipment such as; LY-80 anti-aircraft missile weapons system, CM-501 series missile weapons system, FC-1 and Wing Loong aircraft, ZDK-03 AWACS aircraft, VT-4 main battle tanks, JARI USV multipurpose unmanned combat boat, and a variety of radars and electronic countermeasure combat systems to countries in the region.
China has also setup a PLA logistics support base in Djibouti to help support escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast, as well as to provide humanitarian relief.
From November 22 to 26, the 30th Chinese naval escort task force replenished and recharged in the PLA logistics support base in Djibouti, and then returned to the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somali to continue its international escort missions.
