Cirrus has secured an additional engineering services contract to support the Generic COMCEN System (GCS) simulation training system used by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The GCS has been utilised by the Defence Force School of Signals Maritime Communications and Information Systems Wing at HMAS Cerberus since 2018.
Basically, the GCS is a synthetic training environment that allows communications and information systems personnel to operate their equipment within a naval communications centre.
The GCS permits instructors to reconfigure the system to represent communication centres of different ship classes within the RAN.
The GCS also incorporates an integrated learning management system to manage training data and simplify administrative functions. The benefit of this is that instructors can then focus on knowledge transfer.
Peter Freed, Cirrus’ Managing Director, said: ‘Cirrus is pleased to continue our close working relationship…,with the new arrangement providing for an expanded level of software development services supporting the ongoing evolution of this system.’
Simultaneously, Cirrus received a contract for expanded support of the Tactical Electronic Warfare system, this being an electronic warfare training system used at HMAS Watson since 2019.
