The ongoing airshow, which features participation from over 1,400 exhibitors from more than 95 countries and over 190 aircraft on static display, is resulting in large commercial orders with announcements and deals in the military domain being relatively muted.
While Day 1 of the Dubai Airshow saw defence deals worth US$1.28 billion (AED 4.7 billion) being finalised, Day 2 was a lot quieter. It is however expected that Day 3 of the show will feature a greater proportion of deals and announcements in the defence domain.
The momentum on day two of the airshow was marked by a flurry of landmark deals and ground-breaking announcements, but primarily related to the civilian domain.
EGYPTAIR announced an order for 10 new Airbus A350-900s, while Oman Air announced an order and delivery of the operator's first 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF), its first dedicated cargo aircraft. SCAT Airlines ordered seven Boeing 737-8 airplanes, and Ethiopian Airlines made a commitment to order 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 20 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes, with an opportunity for 15 and 21 additional jets.
flydubai signed a multi-year agreement with CFM for LEAP-1B engines to support its growth plan, while day two, also saw Emirates airline sign deals with Safran worth over US$1.2 billion for Emirates’ new fleet of Airbus A350, Boeing 777X-9 and existing Boeing 777-300 aircraft.
