Country Open to Foreign Investment in Aerospace: Mexican President

: Apr 25, 2019 - : 4:18 am

Mexico will continue to seek foreign investment in the aerospace sector, Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador has said. He was inaugurating the third edition of FAMEX at the Santa Lucia Military Base on Wednesday. The event will conclude on Saturday.

“Mexico is a country with a very good rule of law, without corruption and bad practices,” the President said as he sought to allay the fears of the industry that foreign direct investment (FDI) in the sector would not be encouraged by the new government.

“Mexico is open to receive international investments,” he added. In his opening speech, the Mexican president announced that the construction of the new international airport at Santa Lucia will start April 29, as soon as the event concludes.

The new airport will be named ¨General Felipe Angeles Airport,” in honor of one of the most important generals in Mexican history.

“I hope this week some good deals can be made,” the Mexican President said. He also spoke about the 72 aircraft that the Mexican government is selling from its presidential feet.  The Lopez Obrador administration hopes to collect 10,000 million pesos from the sale and will invest the money to create development and to ensure social welfare. The Mexican aerospace industry has been able to secure major investments in recent years and is poised to continue its growth, Alfredo del Mazo, Governor of Estado de Mexico, said.
