Curtiss-Wright has unveiled the PacStar 452 server, designed to enhance data storage capabilities in tactical edge applications. This new server supports four E1.S NVMe drives, providing high-speed storage, which is crucial for applications that require large data storage at the edge, such as military and security operations. The server’s rugged design and the inclusion of E1.S storage devices ensure it can operate efficiently in demanding environments, offering faster performance without the need for processor throttling, even at higher temperatures.
The PacStar 452 also integrates Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) for remote management. This, combined with Curtiss-Wright’s IQ-Core Software network management tools, allows users to manage and monitor server operations remotely, offering increased efficiency in deployment and management. The module uses an Intel Xeon processor, available in 4, 8, or 10-core configurations, ensuring optimal performance in battlefield server operations.
“We are proud to bring the high-speed, thermally optimized ruggedization benefits of E1.S storage devices to tactical edge processing applications,” said Brian Perry, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions Division. “For customers seeking high-performance, rugged solutions to support system hyperconvergence and edge-to-cloud connectivity on the move, our new PacStar 452 server delivers industry-leading server capabilities with support for remote network management. It represents our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest-performance compute and networking solutions at the tactical edge of the battlefield.”
The PacStar 452’s four E1.S NVMe drives each provide 4TB of storage, for a total of 16TB. Future versions will offer 8TB drives, expanding total storage to 32TB. The server’s built-in IPMI allows for remote setup and management, enabling users to access media resources over IP networks, thereby reducing the need for additional equipment or on-site personnel.
This server module is particularly suited for hosting software applications or virtual appliances in a compact, rugged form factor. It is available with a range of pre-loaded, pre-secured, and pre-qualified software applications for tactical C5ISR/EW (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat, and Intelligence/ Electronic Warfare) environments. It supports various cutting-edge technologies from notable companies including Aruba Networks, Cisco, Microsoft, and VMware, among others.
Weighing just 5.4 lbs and meeting MIL-STD durability standards, the PacStar 452 is adaptable for various environments, including command posts, vehicles, and aircraft. It can be used independently or integrated into larger PacStar 400-Series solutions, which can accommodate up to nine modules in a 4RU form factor. The system is compatible with the PacStar Smart Chassis, offering various transport and mounting options for different operational needs.
Curtiss-Wright’s PacStar family of communications solutions is well-regarded for its rugged, mobile, and small form-factor systems, designed for both military and commercial applications. Their products support secure, command, control, and communications systems, particularly in remote or infrastructure-limited areas. The company’s IQ-Core Software further enhances these systems with integrated network communications management, ideal for mission-critical field communications.
