Turkish shipbuilder Dearsan, which launched the first of two FAC 50 fast attack craft for the Qatari Emiri Navy in November last year, will launch the second MAC 50 (Missile Attack Craft) next month.

The contract for the two missile-equipped platforms was announced during the previous edition of DIMDEX. The vessels are an extended and modernised variant of Dearsan’s original 43-metre FAC design. The two vessels will undergo sea trials in Türkiye and then in Qatar before being inducted into the Qatari Emiri Navy.

“For now, the contract is for two, but we hope to build more for the Qatari Emiri Navy,” a company representative told GBP Daily News. “We will be able to deliver the two MAC 50 vessels in 2027. We have seen considerable interest in the FAC from other countries as well.”

The MAC 50 is 50.76 meters long with a 9.53-meter beam and 2.10-meter draft. It has a maximum speed of 36 knots and a range of 1,000 nautical miles. The vessel is configured for surface warfare, air defence, and asymmetric warfare operations. The vessel is equipped with Roketsan ÇAKIR anti-ship missiles and Roketsan Sungur surface-to-air missiles. While the primary gun is a Leonardo 40 mm, there are two Aselsan STAMP remote weapon stations and two manually controlled 12.7 mm machine guns.

The company has been successful in finding other international customers for its vessels as well. It has delivered over 25 ships of various types to the Turkmenistan Navy and Coast Guard. The company has also received orders from Azerbaijan and Nigeria.

New Projects: The company is now working on the Next Generation Mine Hunting Vessel (YMAG) program for the Turkish Navy.  The 90-metres vessel will deploy unmanned surface and underwater autonomous vehicles. Dearsan is also building two 99 metre Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) for  the Turkish Navy.
